FAKE SLAVE TAGS

A GREAT reference book for slave-tag collectors is:

Slave Badges & the Slave-Hire System in Charleston, by Harlan Greene, Harry S. Hutchins & Brian E. Hutchins

Er...this is a total junker and a fantasy junker at that.  Plantations did not issue slave tags.

I can almost see the uneducated crook diligently making this fake slave tag.  The lettering is horrible.

This one was made and aged pretty well.  It is the shape, and the fantasy wording that alerts us that this is junk.

This is just total trash.  This must have come from the Special Ed section of the Faker Academy.

My, My!  What a fugly fake!  Since this one is from Virginia, it is a fake from the start, but those awful modern numbers stamped in the face only make it worse!

On the left we have a REAL Charleston slave tag.  On the right, we have a typical fake junker you see on e-bay daily.  Note the differences in the letters, numbers, and the fake has the corners sloppily folded.

The patina is applied, the number is modern die, and the shape is off.  Sloppy folds too.  JUNK!!!!

FYI:  Slave tags ONLY EXISTED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  A tag from ANYWHERE else is a fake no matter how great it looks.

I've seen Chicken Inspector badges that were more convincing than this!  Look at the modern number 71 tapped in with modern stamps!  This is a 100% fantasy item.

This is a passable fake, but it is still a fake.  Note the applied patina.

Another prime example of the uneducated crook.  He goes to ALLLL the trouble to make and age this tag...and he does a decent job.  EXCEPT that slave tags were only issued in Charleston, South Carolina!  DUH!

Besides blurring the photo to make it harder to see his slave tag is fake, this slime-bag seller has a slave tag make out of what appears to be tin or aluminum, not copper as real ones were.

Typical of the bogus slave tags on e-bay.  Modern letter die stamps, and slave tags

were only from Charleston, SC.  This is the epitome of junk.

This is another fake slave tag on the left.  4 originals are in the photo on the right.  See the difference?

Another fake slave tag, though better than the one above it.  Look at the number "223."  Modern die stamp.

This fake tag is sold by the same seller as the above fake tag.  See the similarities???  Gee, what a coincidence!

Here is the companion fake item to go along with a fake slave tag.  This is a 100% bogus "Slave Patrol" badge.  Don't be fooled!

Passable fake, but still a fake.

Another fake.  They just keep coming!!

Besides the worst Spongebob camera work, the tag is a clunker too.  FAKE!!!

This is a clunker.  SLAVE TAGS ONLY WERE MADE IN CHARLESTON!!!!  This is a fantasy tag.

Fake slave tag.

This P.O.S. even has a name!  ANDY!  What a crock...

This thing gives me anal glaucoma because I can't see my ass bidding on it!!  JUNK!!!

First we had Andy, now we have Rufus!  Gee what a crock!  Whoever stamped these letters is a goob.

This piece of excrement was peddled as a "Sympathy" for slaves medal.  PLEASE!!!!  The only sympathy I can see is for the dupe that buys it!

This is one of the best fakes I have seen yet.  It was made back in the 1960's.  Real slave tags had folded corners, and the lettering was different.

No self-respecting slave would EVER have worn this claptrap.

Fake "slave collar."  This is the epitome of crap on e-bay.  Well, at least the ruler is real.

ANOTHER fake slave collar.
